BS 25999-2 Foundations Part 3: Business Continuity Planning

Why is business continuity planning important?

Business continuity plans, consisting of incident response plans and recovery plans, are the main outcome of business continuity management – they define precisely what the organization must do in order to survive a major disruption of its business activities.

Sceptics say that these plans are not enforceable in case of a major disaster – they are probably right if the plans are not based on business impact analysis, if not kept up-to-date, and if they are not exercised and tested.

Therefore it is of utmost importance that the development of these plans is not taken too lightly – BCM professionals should play the key role in putting all the pieces of this puzzle in the right place.
